Appearance
Well, what we have here is a real opaque dark red box with a gold-plated lock and handles. If I didn’t know that it was a humidor, I would have thought that it was made to store ammunition, but not cigars. Just kidding 🙂 It is a great humidor for long-term storage if you don’t want to look at your cigars all the time. But I would not use it as interior decoration, it looks too big and I would use for example an acrylic humidor – that would make your guests more enthralled. The item is constructed of veneered manufactured density fiberboard (MDF) and the shelves and drawers are in Spanish Cedar. At this price, it’s a feast!
Space
The main advantage of this humidor is its capacity. Indeed more than 500 Corona-sized Cigars can be stored there. Also thanks to this big capacity the humidor doesn’t have any problems with natural air circulation, so the humidor humidifies evenly and the RH doesn’t jump up and down but stays stable for the whole year after seasoning.
Trays with Dividers
This set comes with 2 Spanish Cedar Trays with Dividers and 2 Dividers at the Bottom made of quality Spanish cedar. Very good finish and no critical irregularities that would prevent you to enjoy the smooth surface of the dividers. Naturally, slots have been made inside the trays for the best air circulation. I would leave the right side of the Medici Cigar Humidor for the electronic humidifier: it fits there perfectly and I looked at the reviews: I am not the only one who does so.
Build quality
Amazing build quality for this price. The lid has no backlash, the seams are well joined and the wood sits in the grooves like a flush: air simply has no option but to circulate inside the humidor to ensure storage and aging process. I am delighted! Canadian customers have so many faults and I can not figure out what that has to do with anything. I looked at the picture and was horrified by the quality: It is not a humidor, but some kind of fake. But that was a couple of years ago, can any of our readers confirm or deny the question about the defective Medici Cigar Humidor?
Humidifiers and hygrometers
How many years have passed and manufacturers and distributors still don’t calm down and offer disgusting non-quality cigar accessories? Humidifiers, analog hygrometers, cheap cigar lighters… It is already a standard practice to throw away accessories and buy new and high-quality ones when buying a humidor. Honestly, I don’t like this approach, but I know why they do it. Why not take more time to post-check the product so it doesn’t have cracks and we don’t have to dab them with silicone gels?
Why not at least put in the cheapest, but digital hygrometer that is many times more accurate than the analog version, and if you need the latter, go ahead and buy it for less than $7. I’ll tell you: without these wacky accessories the average consumer will not buy a humidor, in his eyes, it will have little value and it is unlikely it will stand out from the others.
Do you think everything is great in the premium range and you don’t have to change anything? Not really. I recently did a review on Daniel Marshall, these guys also put a cheap sponge humidifier just with their logo and raise the price tag. It just makes me want to go out and buy a ready-made solution for myself or as a gift and not think: everything should have already been done by the company’s employees BEFORE me.
I hope we will ever get to this bright future. I will say right away that it all goes to the trash and buy a normal digital hygrometer, and instead of default humidifiers buy boveda packs or beads, but the best solution would be to buy an electronic humidifier. The space is asking for active humidification with a fan. As always with table humidors, the price goes up 20-30% because of the additional accessories. So get ready morally!
Pros of Medici Cigar Humidor
- Really big capacity with comfortable trays. Claims 500 cigars might hold, but due to the different sizes, go for 300-400, ok?
- Combination of Spanish wood + MDF. The first material is used for the interior and the second for the exterior. Because of this, the price tag is lower and functionality does not suffer
- High-quality assembly. The air inside doesn’t escape and it keeps the humidity stable
- Easy seasoning process. It takes 3-4 days for the initial preparation of the humidor and then you can forget about it for a year.
- Tight lid with a lock and gold-plated handles. Looks nice and is authentic
Cons of Medici Cigar Humidor
- Default Accessories for this humidor go to the trash and buy normal and functioning, which adds $40 to $100 to the price tag
- Design is not the strongest point of this humidor if that is what you care about.
Verdict
Medici Cigar Humidor Review The Medici Cigar Humidor is used to store an impressive amount of cigars and it does a great job. Thanks to the quality construction it keeps the humidity stable which allows to make the aging process and enjoy an even more exquisite taste of cigars. But like all cheap humidors suffers from the quality of the exterior material and the cigar accessories. That analog hygrometer is irrelevant and better replaced by a Bluetooth digital hygrometer so you don’t have to open the lid of the humidor unnecessarily.
Seth’s Humidor is recommended.
