I trying to choose an electric cigar humidor. But I’m a little unsure about the one that are thermoelectric as my understanding is they can only cool relative to the ambient temperature. But by how much I don’t understand or seen that information.
I don’t have air conditioning or cooler spot in my home and this summer I’ve had to move my wooden humidor to a friends, not ideal.

I completely understand your concern about choosing the right electric cigar humidor, especially when it comes to thermoelectric models. You’re correct in thinking that thermoelectric humidors rely on the temperature difference with the environment to cool. The cooling capacity can indeed vary, and it’s not always easy to find specific information on how much they can cool.
In your situation, where you don’t have air conditioning or a cooler spot at home, it’s important to choose a humidor that suits your needs. The cooling capacity of thermoelectric humidors is typically mentioned in the product specifications. This information should give you an idea of how much cooler the internal temperature can get compared to the surrounding ambient temperature.
Considering the challenges you’ve faced this summer with having to move your wooden humidor to a friend’s place, it’s a good idea to look for a thermoelectric humidor that has a significant cooling capacity. This will ensure that your cigars remain at the optimal temperature and humidity level despite the lack of a dedicated cooling environment.
In summary, while thermoelectric humidors do rely on the ambient temperature for cooling, you can find models with varying cooling capacities. Look for one that suits your needs and has a substantial cooling range. This way, you can keep your cigars fresh without the need for extra cooling resources.
