Hello Mr. Lee,
I saw your article on “Best Digital Hygrometer For Your Humidor” and saw a contact E-mail at the end, so I ventured this question.
Where are the crucial sensors on hygrometers located? Does it vary by a specific hygrometer, or is there an optimum location common to all?
Let me give some background to my question.
I want to build a very nice custom humidor for a close friend. It will have a lot of decorative elements dear to him.
One of the youtube videos I watched on building a humidor
Had the hygrometer installed in the front, with a clear-cut hole through the front piece of wood, thus having the rear of the hygrometer in the interior of the humidor? That placement is obviously advantageous for easy reading of the humidity without having to open the humidor and thereby risking altering the interior humidity. My concern is where are the sensors? Are they at the rear of the hygrometer such that they are free to interact with the air inside the humidor?
The hygrometer he used was the OYHBO Digital Analog Cigar Hygrometer.
Based on what you stated in the article, which is consistent with other articles, I plan to use a digital hygrometer. (Despite the title, the OYHBO hygrometer looks purely analog to me.)
So that leads me to my question. Whichever hygrometer I end up getting I would like to install it as he did, but I also want to be assured the sensor location allows it to accurately sense the humidity in the humidor.
Thanks in advance for your time in reading this and for any insight you can provide.
Sincerely, Roberto Camino
Dear Roberto!
Thank you for your email!
Let’s get started.
> Where are the crucial sensors on hygrometers located?
The crucial sensors are located on the backside of the hygrometer but it depends on the model. If you have a round hygrometer sensors typically will be on the backside.
Where is the optimum location of the hygrometer in the humidor?
It is the middle place in the standard desktop humidor but in the high cigar cabinets, you should use two or three hygrometers to control every location: bottom, middle, and top side (the difference can be 5-7% of RH).
You can install a hygrometer in the front of the humidor and use it like this one or you can use round digital too Cigar Oasis Caliber 4R Gold. Both of them have little holes on the backside, so you can easily install them in your custom humidor 🙂
If you have any other questions, please, be free to ask them!
Sincerely,
Seth Lee
